Healthy Lifestyle Choices Grades K-5 Digital Curriculum

Cross-curricular program provides young students with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices and smart decisions in Kindergarten through Grade 5. All lessons align with the National Education Standards. A 2-year license gives educators access to the online curriculum and assessments. All programs are digital only.

• Grade K: Cross-curricular program provides young students with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices and smart decisions. Each 45-minute lesson includes five steps and activities to practice the skills they learn. They can follow along as a group of characters called the Case Crusaders lay out complex social and emotional concepts in a way that young students can easily understand. While learning about self-image in one lesson, students discover how to identify their special talents, how these make them unique, and how to make good choices based on those talents.

• Grade 1: Easy-to-implement, 5-step lessons break down complex social and emotional complex into topics students in Grade 1 can relate to in their daily lives. An animated cast of characters called the Case Crusaders lead students through lessons based on life skills, nutrition, fitness, safety, conflict resolution, and substance abuse prevention with grade-appropriate topics. During a 45-minute lesson about communication, students will practice speaking clearly and listening to others. After talking about the importance of clear communication, they will then apply these skills to activities highlighted in the curriculum.

• Grade 2: Comprehensive, 5-step lessons aim to positively impact students’ knowledge about health and behaviors. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics that focus on acquiring important life skills, nutrition, fitness, safety, conflict resolution, and substance abuse prevention. 45-minute lessons are developed specifically for students in Grade 2 and include activities to reinforce the topic covered that day. Students can follow along with a group called the Case Crusaders as they explore the topics. For example, students will learn how to define their self-image, how it relates to their unique talents, and then discover how to apply the talents to solve problems during an activity.

• Grade 3: Each 5-step lesson focuses on a specific topic that helps students in Grade 3 build life skills and learn how to build a healthy lifestyle. For example, in one 45-minute lesson, students learn about the importance of having a positive self-image and how to maintain it. They follow along as a group called the Case Crusaders lead them through the lesson, discuss the meaning of self-image, and then put their new knowledge to the test in an activity. Over the course of the lessons, students learn about nutrition, fitness, and safety. They also discover methods to resolve conflicts and prevent substance abuse.

• Grade 4: Whether it’s used as part of a cross-curricular program or during physical education classes, this curriculum teaches students in Grade 4 the skills they need to make well-informed decisions. 45-minute lessons are broken out into 5 easy-to-follow steps and focus on skills students will use throughout their lives. In one lesson led by a group called the Case Crusaders, students start by discussing the importance of speaking clearly and why they need to be active listeners for effective communication. They can then put their knowledge to the test during activities that incorporate listening skills. Topics covered in the curriculum include learning about important life skills, nutrition, fitness, safety, conflict resolution, and substance abuse prevention.
• Grade 5: Each 45-minute lesson begins with an overview of objectives, necessary materials, and vocabulary words. Teachers introduce students to the topic and provide them with the key message they will learn. For example, a lesson may address the importance of maintaining a positive self-image with help from a group called the Case Crusaders. Students then put those skills to the test during a set of activities and scenarios. All lessons align with the National Education Standards and include topics that address life skills, nutrition, fitness, safety, conflict resolution, and substance abuse prevention.
